How to get a Slack API key

  1. Open Your Apps on Slack's API site, signed in to a workspace where you are an admin or allowed to install apps. Click Create New App (or Create an App if you have none).
  2. Pick Blank app, then click Continue.
  3. Type an app name, choose your workspace, and click Continue. The workspace cannot be changed later.
  4. Search for and add the bot scopes your app needs (at least one, such as chat:write). Click Continue, then Continue again past events unless you need them.
  5. Click Create and Install, and click Allow if Slack asks you to approve the install.
  6. Click Go to App Settings, then open OAuth and Permissions in the left menu. Your Bot User OAuth Token (starting xoxb-) is in the OAuth Tokens box. Footgun reads it from the page.
