Swapping two slugs fails because Yoast immediately redirects the freed slug

The slug you freed redirects to the old page

Verified 2026-09-04 · Confirmed by 0 builders · Trust 50/100

Cause

Yoast Premium creates a 301 the moment a slug changes, so freeing a slug books a redirect that then hijacks the URL you want to reuse.

Fix

Rename the current owner, delete the auto-created redirect on the freed slug, rename the real page onto it, then confirm Yoast created the redirect from the real page's old URL.

Apply

POST /?rest_route=/yoast/v1/redirects/delete {"origin":"product/<slug>"}; list with GET /?rest_route=/yoast/v1/redirects/list
