Cause

httpx 0.28.0 removed the proxies argument that openai-python passed to it until 1.55.3. Pinned old SDK versions pull the newest httpx and fail at client creation.

Fix

Upgrade openai to 1.55.3 or later, or pin httpx below 0.28.

Apply

pip install "openai>=1.55.3"  # or: pip install "httpx<0.28"

Affects: openai-python earlier than 1.55.3 with httpx 0.28.0 or later, since 2024-11-28
