n8n shows webhook URLs as http://localhost:5678 when running behind a reverse proxy

Cause

n8n builds public URLs from its protocol, host and port settings, which describe the internal listener, not the proxy. From 2.35.0 the override is N8N_WEBHOOK_URL and the old WEBHOOK_URL logs a deprecation warning.

Fix

Set the public base URL explicitly, set proxy hops to 1, and forward X-Forwarded-For, X-Forwarded-Host and X-Forwarded-Proto from the proxy.
