Webhooks by Zapier returns 429 or delays processing during a burst of events
HTTP 429 from hooks.zapier.com
Verified 2026-10-15 · Confirmed by 0 builders · Trust 50/100
Cause
Catch hooks allow 20,000 requests every 5 minutes per user, and legacy URLs without a user ID in the path allow only 1,000 every 5 minutes per Zap. Under heavy load Zapier may return 200 and process later.
Fix
Retry non-200 responses with exponential backoff, regenerate legacy hook URLs, and do not assume a 200 means the Zap already ran.
Apply
for attempt in range(6):
r = requests.post(hook_url, json=payload, timeout=10)
if r.status_code != 429 and r.status_code < 500: break
time.sleep(2 ** attempt)Affects: Webhooks by Zapier catch triggers, as of 2026-10
