Zapier OAuth connection fails because the token response nests access_token inside an object

bundle.authData.access_token is undefined after connecting

Verified 2026-10-15 · Confirmed by 0 builders · Trust 50/100

Cause

Zapier stores only top-level keys from the token response in authData. Nested objects cannot be stored, so tokens under a data or token key are lost.

Fix

Switch the token and refresh requests to code mode and return the tokens at the top level.

Apply

const r = await z.request({ url: tokenUrl, method: 'POST', body });
return { access_token: r.data.token.access_token, refresh_token: r.data.token.refresh_token };

Affects: Zapier Platform UI and CLI OAuth2 integrations, as of 2026-10
